I have been an avid inventor as long as I can remember. From the wind powered scooter that flew me down the street in the 1st grade, to my custom electric guitar in high school, I have always loved making. Growing up, I was constantly working all sorts of projects in my fathers workshop.
When I was 16 I was introduced to the world of open source hardware through 3D printing at the new makerspace in Bellingham Washington, The Foundry. Before long, I was working for the makerspace, fabricating 3D printer kits and teaching classes to "Build your own 3D printer" with my mentor Jeff Kerr of Lobo CNC.
I continued my education in Engineering at Western Washington University's Plastics and Composites Engineering program. There I developed my knowledge of material science and process engineering, with a particular passion for sustainable materials. I also enjoyed the local music seen as I got my minor in audio engineering. I tied the parts of my degree together with a independent study building custom microphones for my personal recording studio.
I graduated from engineering school in the spring of 2020, just as the world went into lock-down. That summer, I decided to focus on helping the community that had supported me and began managing the Bellingham Makerspace. While keeping the non profit makerspace running through the pandemic, I began using my prototyping skills to help people turn their lockdown ideas into reality.
In the fall of 2020, I founded my business B. Carver Creatives as a roof for my consulting work and my many research projects surrounding sustainable materials, 3D printing and urban food production.
I continue to work as a engineering consultant and independent researcher. My goal is creating a sustainable world where the things we make and places we live don't destroy the natural world.
